The story behind the 30th anniversary TV ad
To commemorate the anniversary of Nolan uPVC’s 30th year in business, a new TV advert hit screens across Wales in May. The advert launched on 29th April on ITV and S4C for a two-week period and will be back on TV in September.
The ‘Window on Life’ advert focuses on the one constant in Nolan customers’ lives, the company’s delivery of quality products and service, but they are more than just products. Nolan makes a house a home and a place to create memories. These memories from the past 30 years are projected onto Nolan windows during the advert. The advert was filmed at Enfys Studios, Cardiff by the production team at Orchard Media. Commenting on the day of filming, actor David Roberts, said: “We really enjoyed the experience, and wish you well with your campaign. It was particularly interesting to be filming at the studio where our favourite quiz programme, 'Only Connect' is recorded. We were very impressed with the efficient and very friendly manner of all those involved, it was very interesting to see how well planned the morning was.”As the filming took place in a studio, the first task was to figure out how Nolan was going to showcase its products within the mocked-up living spaces. The production team at Orchard concluded that the windows would be suspended from the studio roof, which can’t be seen in the finished advert due to the suspension wires being edited out by the effects team.Next was to choose the products that would be suspended, which were; an aluminium anthracite grey window, light oak uPVC window with monkey-tail handles, white uPVC window with Georgian bars and the ‘Nolan red’ window, which is featured in the last scene. Each of the products chosen not only show the variety of styles and colours that Nolan offer, but they also show the four different lifestyle scenarios within the advert. The voiceover heard at the end of the advert is the voice of managing director, Nolan Nicholas, and as a proud Welsh company there was a version recorded in Welsh by Nolan too. Nolan has been a staple element to the TV adverts over the years, undertaking a starring role in many. He said about the latest advert:“I am more than happy to be involved once again with the Nolan TV advert. What’s more special about this one is the fact it is being produced to celebrate 30 years in business,” he said. “I am very lucky and proud to be a business owner that has seen success within a competitive industry for three decades. I am extremely pleased with the outcome of the advert, and I hope it brings as much joy to those who watch as it does to me.”Tricia Jordan, who acted alongside her husband and two children in the advert, shared her thoughts: “When we were asked to do the advert, I really liked the values of the company. My husband, our two sons Luca, Bobby and I were very excited when we arrived at the studio.“The crew were very nice and the boss of Nolan was there too. He was very proud of his company and their achievements, and rightly so. We were very proud to be part of an advert for a company that has stood the test of time and that really cares about their customers. When we saw the finished advert on TV, I thought it was so heart-warming and really brought out the company values and the kids loved seeing themselves on TV.”A massive thank you to everyone at Orchard for their planning and production of the advert, to Enfys studios for their hospitality and facilities, and to the actors involved who were terrific and brought it all together perfectly.Keep your eyes peeled for the other ways Nolan will be celebrating our 30th year in business.
